TRANSFER OF PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR FROM ANOTHER INSTITUTION
.........................................................................................................................................................................
Principal investigators transferring awards or proposals to the University of New Mexico must consult and coordinate with the appropriate Pre-Award office as early as possible, preferably before the PI actually begins employment at UNM. The Pre-Award office can work with the PI to ensure all information and approvals are obtained to facilitate an easy transition. Pre-Award will require much of the same information as if the award had been processed through UNM initially: original proposal, award document, and amendments up to the present. Transfer paperwork from the other institution, a new budget for the amount being transferred to UNM, and a completed Proposal Data Sheet and Conflict of Interest form will also be needed. Additionally, the PI should advise the department/unit administrator and Pre-Award of any personnel or equipment being transferred to UNM. It may be possible to obtain Pre-Award approval, using the “UNM Request for Approval to Spend Funds” form to set up a BANNER index at UNM in advance of receiving all necessary paperwork.
Principal investigators whose employment contract is not yet in effect may need to secure a Letter of Academic Title from the Faculty Contracts Office to allow processing of such transactions during this transition period. Principal investigators should work closely with their department administrators to secure assistance with this process.
