Purpose and Activities: Albertsons, Inc. is a major supermarket chain.
Albertsons commits a portion of its pre-tax earnings for charitable contribution
to the communities it serves. The foundation funds in the areas of hunger
relief, youth education, health & nutrition, and environmental stewardship.
Health and welfare support is made to assure the availability of adequate
health care and human service support for employees and other corporate constituents
and to promote the development of new, workable responses to human health
and welfare needs. Education grants are made to assure the availability of
a pool of trained and educated men and women from which to draw employees;
to encourage continuing research and development in academic specialties relevant
to the business corporation; and to promote standards of educational excellence.
Culture and arts grants are made to assure the availability of creative resources
and services in the visual, performing, and written arts for the enrichment
and enjoyment of employees and other corporate constituents and to provide
standards of excellence in culture and the arts.
Eligibility Requirements: Applicants must be tax-exempt organizations
under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Giving is limited to
areas where Albertson's operates, including New
Mexico. Health and welfare grants are given to federated drives (e.g., United
Way), hospitals, youth agencies, and other local health and welfare groups.
Education grants are given to public and private higher education institutions,
employee matching grants, scholarship programs and contributions to other
education-related organizations including those that seek to increase public
knowledge of economics and other subjects of special importance to the corporation.
Culture and arts grants are given to performing arts programs, museums, public
radio and television, cultural programs, and non-academic libraries. Grants
are not made to individuals or to religious organizations for religious advocacy.
