Purpose and Activities: The Albuquerque Community Foundation is a pool of charitable funds whose income must be used to benefit the greater Albuquerque metropolitan. Giving is divided into two different categories: The Competitive Grant program and The Future Fund. The foundation has five general fields of interest: for The Competitive Grants Program: Arts and Culture, Children and Youth, Education, Health, Human Services, and Environmental and Historical Preservation. Specific funds are available to address specific issues or to support specific programs including: art education in public schools, performing arts, mediation, domestic violence, direct service for the elderly, and programs that encourage the discussion and study of ideas. The Future Funds mission is to acquaint youth with philanthropy, community awareness and leadership skills. The foundation also awards ten scholarships and financial aid programs for NM residents.

Eligibility Requirements: Applicants must be tax-exempt organizations under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Foundation grants can be used for direct program services, start-up funding, demonstration projects, management assistance and training, promotional campaigns, and research. Grants will not be made to individuals; for political or religious purposes; to retire debt; for the payment of interest or taxes; for annual campaigns, endowments, for conferences or symposiums, for emergency funding; to influence legislation or elections; or to private foundations and other grant-making organizations, or to organizations that discriminate on the basis of race, creed, or gender. The foundation does fund faith-based organizations under specific guidelines.

Sample Grants: Sample grants include $5K to the Explora Science Center, $8K to the Cornerstone Community Partnership, $5K to the Albuquerque Youth Symphony Program, $10K to the Albuquerque Opportunity Center, $5.9K the Roadrunner Food Bank, and $1.5K to the UNM Center for Development and Disability(2005).
