Purpose and Activities: AWU administers Graduate Student Internships/Fellowships to qualified masters and doctoral degree candidates. The awards are made available through funding from national laboratories, other federal agencies and industry and provide the opportunity to (a) conduct thesis or dissertation research or (b) explore research and technology career options or gain practical training at a sponsoring facility. Qualifications include academic performance and potential, career goals, recommendations, and compatibility of proposed project with the needs and resources of the host facility.
Faculty Fellowships are awards to qualified college and university faculty members in science, mathematics, engineering, and technology. The awards are made available through funding from national laboratories, other federal agencies and industry and provide the opportunity to participate in and contribute to research and applied technology at a sponsoring facility. These awards enhance education and research activities at our sponsoring facilities and facilitate the development and strengthening of long-term collaborative relationships and technology transfer between facility and faculty researchers.
Eligibility Requirements: For Undergraduate opportunities, students must have been or will be enrolled in any accredited institution within six months of the start of their award are eligible. For Graduate opportunities, students must be masters and doctoral degree candidates enrolled in an accredited graduate program are eligible to apply.
