Date Established: 1968.
Purpose and Activities: Bank of America Foundation views its contributions
as an investment in the community. Through its grants program the foundation
hopes to improve the quality of life, to address the needs of education, and
to create an atmosphere that will result in a stronger and richer community.
The foundation is defined as market to market to ensure funding for key community
priorities. For Albuquerque The Bank of America Foundation offers the Neighborhood
Excellence Initiative which priorities are: community development with an
emphasis on affordable housing, workforce development, small business development
and neighborhood revitalization; education with an emphasis on early childhood
development and English as a second language; Health and human services with
an emphasis on United Way support and family support services which includes
Neighborhood Builders which provides $200K in general operating support /
provides leadership training to two non-profit organizations working together
to create vibrant neighborhoods.
Eligibility Requirements: Applicants must be tax-exempt under Section
501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The foundation gives priority
to requests from organizations in geographic areas where Bank of America currently
does business. Grants will be considered for specific projects as well as
operating support. Generally, except for capital projects, support will be
given for only one year and organizations must reapply for support each year.
To be eligible, organizations and projects must have broad community support,
address specific community needs, and demonstrate fiscal and administrative
stability by showing strong board commitment, good management policies and
practices, and the ability to produce a budget and organizational financial
statements. The foundation will not make grants to individuals; memorial campaigns;
political activities; religious organizations for sectarian purposes; athletic
events and programs; endowment campaigns; advertising; development or production
of books, films, or video projects; organizations that discriminate on the
basis of age, race, creed, or gender; or individual pre K-12 schools. An eligibility
