Purpose and Activities: The Bureau of Land Management manages more than 270 million acres of public lands, primarily in the Western United States and Alaska, as well as subsurface resource management of an additional 300 million acres where mineral rights are owned by the federal government. The state offices, on occasion, announce applications for cooperative or interagency agreements and grant and contract proposals.
