Purpose and Activities: The Business and Professional Women's (BPW) Foundation operates several programs which award scholarships and loans to non-traditional female students seeking the education necessary to enter, reenter, or advance within the work force. These include the BPW Career Advancement Scholarship Program which awards scholarships in the fields of computer science, teacher education, paralegal studies, engineering or science or professional degrees (J.D., D.D.S., M.D.); the Avon Products Foundation Scholarship Program for Women in Business Studies at the undergraduate or graduate levels; the New York Life Foundation Scholarship Program for Women in the Health Professions; the Wyeth-Ayerst Scholarship Program for Women in Graduate Medical and Health Business Program; and loan programs for women in engineering and graduate business studies. The New Mexico Federation of Business and Professional Women is part of Business and Professional Women/USA. The federation is concerned with the enhancement of women in business and the professions. Local chapters exist in communities throughout the state and have local scholarship competitions.

Eligibility Requirements: Specific requirements may vary for individual programs.

Contact the foundation for application materials. In general, applicants must be 25 years

of age or older, female, a US citizen or US national, be accepted into an accredited program or course of study at a United States institution; demonstrate critical need for financial assistance; have a definite plan for continuing the educational/vocational program supported by this award if the program lasts more than one academic year; and have a definite plan to use the desired training to upgrade skills for career advancement, train for a new career field, or enter or reenter the job market.
