Trustee(s) and Officer(s): Nancy Beard, President; Barbara Duffin, Vice President; Paula Renfrow, Secretary; Robert C. Murray, Treasurer; James Harrison, Executive Director.

Purpose and Activities: The Carlsbad Foundation's guidelines for giving are kept deliberately broad. The health field remains a primary target of the foundation, extending beyond physical health to include mental health, the developmentally disadvantaged, problems of drug and alcohol abuse and health education. Other areas of giving include student loans, and grants to local scholars, civic groups, and charitable organizations. Priority will be given to needs and causes having the greatest overall community usefulness. Priority is given to "pilot projects" or "seed money" so that new projects may demonstrate their usefulness to the community and achieve long-term funding.

Eligibility Requirements: Grant-making is restricted to south Eddy and Carlsbad counties. Projects are tested in terms of their impact on Carlsbad and south Eddy County. No grants for annual campaigns.

Application Data: Formal grant application forms are not used. Proposals should be submitted in letter form outlining briefly the objectives and significance of the project, the plans for carrying it out, and qualifications of the organizations and personnel concerned. An operating budget, information on sources of income, and a copy of the applicant's official notice of tax-exempt status should be submitted with the letter.

Fiscal Info: Total giving $480K (2005). Total assets $19.67M (2005).
