New Required Training Now Available for Human Subject Research Investigators
The University of New Mexico is changing the educational requirements for all human subject research investigators (this includes any person who is responsible for the design, conduct, or reporting of a UNM human subject research activity).
Time Frame:
March 2, 2007 - New research proposals received after March 2, 2007 will not be reviewed until the required training is completed.
June 30, 2007 - Researchers with ongoing human subject research projects must complete the CITI training by June 30, 2007.
The Collaborative IRB Training Initiative (CITI):
Replaces the HRRC Web-based training or other UNM IRB training materials.
The CITI training is dsigned, updated, and maintained by a number of nationally known IRB professionals. Modules are housed at the University of Miami.
Designed around topic-specific modules, each followed by a short quiz. The number of modules required depends on the "learner group" with which a person identifies. (See the instruction links below for more information).
Does not have to be completed in one sitting. CITI is user-friendly and available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.
This training is accepted by the National Institute of Health (NIH). We have developed an interactive Adobe letter to send to Rena Vinyard for your Human Research grant on the North Campus (HSC-HRRC) and one for the Main Campus is in development (not yet on line). After filling it out, mail it to Rena Vinyard. She will create a final letter for you.
As an optional way of taking the training our office has set-up some shared time for investigators and their staff to come and take the online training in an HSC Library computer lab in the IRB. This will include some interaction and discussions with other researchers, coordinators, etc. and HRRC staff. Find out more information and register.
VA Investigators have more stringent requirements. If you are a VA investigator, you will need to email the NM VA Office for more information on how to register for CITI.
Before Going to CITI - You need to print out a set of Instructions. The following links will open a word document.
