Revised IRB Manual and Application Forms
Revised IRB Manual and Application Forms. The Main Campus IRB has issued a revised “IRB Policies and Procedures Manual” effective June 12, 2006. The revised manual includes updated and new information regarding the departmental review of protocols for scientific merit, federal rules regarding prisoner related research, research on students and the use of research credits, IRB Progress Reports for re-approvals and modification requests, Final Reports to close out studies, IRB appeals policy, audits of protocols, and procedures for conducting noncompliance inquires and the reporting of findings. In addition, new forms were developed to replace previous ones, especially the main application form and the forms requesting re-approvals and modifications to ongoing research. All new or updated forms are dated June 2006. Effective immediately, applicant investigators should utilize these forms when submitting protocols to the IRB. HIPAA and the Privacy Rule
What is HIPAA and does it apply to my protocol? HIPAA stands for the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. The federal Department of Health and Human Services issued HIPAA regulations to protect the confidentiality of personal health care information effective April 14, 2003. At UNM the Board of Regents has adopted a Policy as to which components of the university must comply with HIPAA regulations.
