RCR Certification

:: Certification of Training in the Responsible Conduct of Research
There are a number of ways of meeting training requirements that can be certifiable by the Research Ethics Advisory Committee. If an investigator believes that they have met the RCR training requirement, they should refer to this list Standard Instructional Components detailed in the Scientific Integrity Plan. Examples of the variety of ways that acceptable RCR training can be attained include:
- Completing an 8-week RCR course in which individuals register, attend, and complete assessment tool. Registration will be via UNM class registration.
- Design and make available hybrid training that involves both web training program and an instructor lead program. This program must be reviewed and approved by the REAC prior to completion.
- Departments, programs, or colleges can substitute their training plan that meets or exceeds UNM Scientific Integrity Plan standards. The REAC will provide written acknowledgment after materials have been reviewed. Individuals who successfully complete a departmental or college program will notify the RECR program director in order to be issued a certificate.
- Certification of adequate completion of a non-standard training program can be petitioned if accompanied by documentation that meets Standard Instructional Components detailed in the Scientific Integrity Plan. Verification requests will be reviewed and a determination made by the REAC or RECR program director. If the program meets or exceeds UNM standards, a UNM certificate will be issued. If not, additional UNM training option will be suggested.
- Symposia, conferences, or workshops containing research ethics topics where researchers and other personnel can register for and attend are offered throughout the academic year. After attendance of a minimum number of sessions and successful completion of an assessment tool, a certificate of completion will be issued. Most of these events will earn 2 hours and can be accumulated to meet eight hours of training required within one year. Once the full requirement is met, a certificate of completion will be issued.
- Those who adopt the "Ethics Across the Curriculum" and/or "Ethics in Context" training strategies should refer to the RECR program website for ways to accomplish this. Each investigator is encouraged to consider this pedagogy and to complete one of these training strategies.
