Added: Actions on NCURA/RSG Recommendations

Welcome to the home page of the Research Study Group. We were charged by the Provost with the responsibility of reviewing and making recommendations for the entire main-campus sponsored-research enterprise, from the birth to the closeout of a sponsored project. We have now completed our study and have submitted our final report to the Provost.

Throughout our study, we sought to involve the entire main-campus research community, through a variety of mechanisms:

• This web page
• Online survey questionnaires, a faculty/PI questionnaire and a staff questionnaire aimed at research-support staff in Colleges/Schools, centers and institutes, and departments.
• Advisory Groups in each College/School to gather input from faculty.
• A Research Administrators Advisory Group to gather input and advice from research administrators, both in the central administration and in Colleges/Schools, departments, and research centers.
• Interviews of staff in the central research administration (Sponsored Projects Services and Contract and Grant Accounting).
• Interviews of senior administrators.
• Confidential input by e-mail to rsg@unm.edu.
• Study of UNM research administration by a team of four consultants from the National Council of University Research Administrators (NCURA), who conducted a site visit at UNM on 15-18 April to assess our research policies and procedures relative to national standards.

The NCURA Review Team submitted its final report on 30 May, and the RSG submitted its final report to the Provost on 30 July. The NCURA Team's report should be regarded as an appendix to the RSG report.

One of the original members of the RSG withdrew from the committee and was replaced by Monica Fishel, who had provided administrative support and had participated in all the committee's deliberations. It was fortunate that Ms. Fishel was available to bring the committee back up to full strength.
