Recovery Act 2009: AHRQ Clinical and Health Outcomes Initiative in Comparative Effectiveness (CHOICE) Grants (R01)

Total Estimated Funding: $100,000,000

Due Date for Applications: December 16, 2009

Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) seeks research grant applications for projects in the area of comparative effectiveness research to respond to the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act of 2009.

Specifically, the goal of this FOA is to request applications for large projects in comparative effectiveness aimed at generating new knowledge to help inform decision making in priority areas of clinical care. The impact of these studies should have a high likelihood of creating major advancements in clinical care. Emphasis will be placed on applications that define important research gaps and design a study to provide actionable results. Applications that include study aims to address the outcomes and effectiveness of assessments across population subgroups often underrepresented in medical research are expected.

Building Sustainable Community-Linked Infrastructure to Enable Health Science Research (RC4)

Total Estimated Funding: $30,000,000

Due Date for Applications: December 11, 2009

The NIH has established a new program entitled Building Sustainable Community-Linked Infrastructure to Enable Health Science Research, hereafter called the ÒCommunity InfrastructureÓ grants program.

The Community Infrastructure grants program will support the development, expansion, or reconfiguration of bi-directional relationships between academic health centers and community entities in the pursuit of improved public health through research. T

hese transformative collaborative arrangements may influence the next generation of health science research. They should engage and empower communities in designing and conducting research projects and the dissemination of research findings in locally-relevant, practical ways. The intended partnerships and infrastructures sought through this initiative differ from traditional practice in that the fundamental purpose is to facilitate bi-directional communication, decision-making and participation in research to improve public health.

Cooperative Agreement:
Redding Native Plant Development

Total Estimated Funding: $ $20,000

Due Date for Applications: November 23, 2009

The objective of this project is to bring together a diverse group of partners to engage in cooperative land and resource management on public lands in Northern Tehama and Southern Shasta County. This project will establish a partnership that could ultimately persist and expand to benefit a variety of cooperators who have an interest in promoting native plant materials development which would more effectively manage lands and resources on a landscape scale.

This project will stimulate landowner, local resident, and general public interest, and increase their knowledge to encourage involvement in the ecological, economic, and social aspects of managing the biological and physical systems in a manner that safeguards long-term ecological integrity and provides for sustainable economic opportunity in Northern California.

The National Map: Imagery and Elevation Maps under ARRA

Total Estimated Funding: $5,850,000

Due Date for Applications: December 1, 2009

The USGS seeks to support cooperative projects that will result in the collection and processing of high resolution (1 point per square meter (ppsm)) lidar or 1-ft ground sample distance (gsd) orthoimagery and meet objectives of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

The orthoimagery and DEM data generated from the lidar will be added to The National Map, a set of national geospatial datasets available to the public at no cost.

USGS will emphasize the selection of large area projects with partners identifying ARRA projects that will (1) yield significant amounts of new data that revise current elevation and orthoimagery holdings in the national databases and (2) stimulate local economies through the creation or retention of jobs.
